About Goal Keepers Corner

Goal Keepers Corner exists to elevate the standard of goalkeeping in South Africa. We provide specialised coaching, community, and content that transforms aspiring keepers into confident, technically excellent players.

Most football academies and school teams treat goalkeepers as an afterthought — one person in a squad of twenty who gets told to “just stand in goal.” GKC was built on the belief that keepers deserve better than that.

Coach Banele Matomela

Banele Matomela is the founder, head coach, and driving force behind Goal Keepers Corner. Based in Johannesburg, he’s built a reputation as one of Mzansi’s most passionate goalkeeper development specialists.

With over 20,000 personal Instagram followers and a growing GKC community, Coach Banele reaches goalkeepers across South Africa through both his in-person sessions and his social media content. He has worked with and featured national team goalkeepers, and his tagline — “Cultivating Talent into Goalkeeping Excellence” — captures his mission.

Coaching Philosophy

Coach Banele’s approach rests on four principles:

  • Every keeper deserves specialised training — not just the ones at elite academies.
  • Goalkeeping is mental and physical — confidence is trained, not given.
  • Fundamentals first, always — consistent repetition combined with game-realistic scenarios.
  • Community drives development — keepers who train together push each other further.

Our Mission

We’re building something that doesn’t yet exist in Johannesburg: a dedicated home for goalkeepers. A place where a keeper aged 8 or 28 can come every Saturday, train with a specialist, learn from other keepers, and leave better than when they arrived.

Through social media content, we extend that reach beyond Johannesburg — sharing drills, motivation, and keeper culture with goalkeepers across the country.

What We’re Working Toward

  • Keepers in Johannesburg know GKC as the place for specialised goalkeeper training.
  • Parents trust Coach Banele with their children’s development.
  • GKC alumni go on to play at school, university, club, and national levels.
  • The organisation becomes financially sustainable through consistent program enrollment.
